While I still find the lens of emotion the most interesting out of the bunch, this year I choose to talk about the lens of problem solving. This lens goes more in depth with the idea of problem solving than a first glance assumption of game genres that revolve around the player solving puzzles to progress. An idea for problem solving can be seen as broad as the player working through the given conflict of the game. The section mentions that players have an internal problem-solving issue that narrows in on what the game asks for the player to progress or complete the game's requirements.
An example that came to my mind for a game genre not commonly linked with the idea of problem solving could be a farming management mobile game that makes players feel accomplished from daily task requirements. From the outside this can be seen as just a casual cozy game but to apply the idea of problem solving one could say there is conflict in allocating materials, time management, and engagement. This can allude to the point that the problem solving within a game can be fun for the player at its base function.
